  1. Women's Right to Choose

Fit Pregnancy: Blogs &bull 2 Hours Ago

Kudos to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) for taking a step in the right direction. Last week, they announced less restrictive guidelines for VBACs, twin births and other candidates for vaginal delivery. ACOG realized their previous guidelines for when VBACs could occur essentially eliminated most of them. They were so restrictive they'd radically increased the c-section rate, somewhat increased the maternal mortality rate and alienated an entire generation of mothers. It's about freaking time ACOG dialed their control issues. Many of my very favorite people and good… Full Story »

  2. Other Mothers' Milk

    Fit Pregnancy: Blogs &bull Jul 26, 2010

After Audra Murray's twins were born at 30 weeks, her breast milk took its time coming in. A hormonal condition, coupled with the fact that the babies were too weak to nurse, wreaked havoc on her supply. She wanted to… Full Story »

  3. Soy Safety

    Fit Pregnancy: Blogs &bull Jul 26, 2010

Soy has spent a lot of time in the spotlight in recent years, linked to lowering cholesterol levels and halting heart disease. The legume also packs a nutritional wallop during pregnancy. With these nutritional benefits, soy seems like a natural choice for expectant moms. But… Full Story »

  4. Beaten While Pregnant

    Fit Pregnancy: Blogs &bull Jul 23, 2010

I recently caught news segments of Mel Gibson allegedly taped spewing foul-mouthed venom at his ex-girlfriend. He's accused of physical and emotional abuse; of bashing his girlfriend's teeth out while she was holding their baby. I just finished Kathryn Stockett's debut novel, The Help, about the civil rights movement in Jackson, Mississippi told from the perspective of black maids raising white children. One of the maids, Minny, got pregnant with her sixth child because her husband didn't usually beat her when she was pregnant. These unrelated stories point to an epidemic we don't talk enough about. Domestic Violence.… Full Story »

  5. Seeking: The bare essentials

    Fit Pregnancy: Blogs &bull Jul 22, 2010

I keep saying "nine months pregnant" to myself to try to make it seem real. It has made me wonder, though, why society is so stuck on that "pregnancy is nine months long" thing. It's...not. As we are all extremely aware, it's ten months. Why the misconception? This has been a rough week, very emotional, with lots of work and some big disappointments… Full Story »

  6. New Rules To Curb Repeated C-sections

    Fit Pregnancy: Blogs &bull Jul 22, 2010

The old saying, "Once a Cesarean, always a Cesarean," will hopefully start to fade soon, thanks to new medical guidelines from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), The Associated Press reports. ACOG's new standards on vaginal births after Cesareans (VBAC)… Full Story »

  7. Deferring My Entry

    Fit Pregnancy: Blogs &bull Jul 21, 2010

Maybe it is because I trained so hard in the winter and my body became accustomed to that. Or maybe I am getting older and my body is less good at regulating temperature. Or, maybe it is just too damn hot in Boston. After last week's post, I decided to defer… Full Story »

  8. Cold Beet Soup

    Fit Pregnancy: Blogs &bull Jul 16, 2010

Grate or mince the raw beets (I pulverize them in a food processor). Add them to a medium pot along with the chicken broth, tomato, onion, 1 tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil; simmer,… Full Story »

  9. Midsummer brain-dump

    Fit Pregnancy: Blogs &bull Jul 16, 2010

My due date is one month from today! Crazy. I'm definitely feeling closer and closer to being ready, at least in terms of stuff... We don't have much more to do in the nursery, and we're waiting until after my baby shower (which is next weekend) to finish buying the essentials. The only big question that is still bothering us is the cloth diaper conundrum: We live, as… Full Story »

The recall includes all Pottery Barn Kids drop-side… Full Story »
